Suppose you have collected a lot of textual information from the web/other sources and stored it in hundreds of Word files in your PC. Then this software will automatically index all the text you have stored and create a web page interface to search through these pages (just like Google). Very useful in a school environment.
Library policy for KVs: Click here to download
Freeware for libraries: A lot of freeware is available on the web. But do use them with caution as some freeware may contain malware. Also, some softwares are free only if you utilise them for personal use. Here I have singled out some softwares which may be used in a library for one purpose or other.
Convert: A free unit conversion program that will convert the most popular units of distance, temperature, volume, time, speed, mass, power, density, pressure, energy and many others, including the ability to create custom conversions.

VLC Media Player: Plays a number of video formats.
Gimp (GNU Image Manipulation Program): Photo edition application. You could use it to edit images of your blog.
FeedReader: A free RSS news aggregation solution that provides robust, state-of-the-art features in an intuitive, user-friendly environment.
GreatNews RSS Reader: RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it. GreatNews is another great tool to organize your RSS feeds.
Typing Tutor: A free typing tutor that teaches you how to touch-type.
Google Earth: A free 3D virtual globe that combines the power of Google Search with satellite imagery, maps, terrain and 3D buildings to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips.

AM DeadLink: Librarians do collect a lot of links while they browse. This free tool detects dead links and duplicates in ther browser bookmarks
CCleaner: Crap Cleaner which I too use a lot. It removes unused and temporary files from your system, including cleaning the registry.
K-Lite Codec Pack: You need Codecs to play a wide variety of audio and video formats. K-Lite bundles a lot of useful Codecs. So next time your PC is unable to recognize an audio/video file, try installing this pack.
Foxit PDF Reader: Free PDF reader, and quite efficient too.
    Free Download Manager
PDFCreator: A free tool to create PDF files from nearly any Windows application.
WAMP: Apache, PHP5 and MySQL server. Some library softwares may require a server to run. For instance, KOHA.

Everything File Manager: This is a very fast and powerful file search utility without any downsides of indexing. The software runs in background at all times and creates database of files that is used for searches.
KRename is a powerful batch renamer for KDE. It allows you to easily rename hundreds or even more files in one go. The filenames can be created by parts of the original filename, numbering the files or accessing hundreds of informations about the file, like creation date or Exif informations of an image.
    Other userful downloads
Map of India: Download the most detailed map of India on the Web. And I am not boasting. I've searched the web for a good map of our country and I found one in the Indian Railways website. But it was just a scanned image of their (Railway's) map. So I decided to make a map myself. I used Google maps, Paint and Adobe Photoshop to "assemble" this map. Check it out. You will have to zoom into it to see the details. You can use FastStone Image Viewer for that.
Standard format for website of KVs
    KV Codes 2008
